Oman Air has underscored its commitment to the Sultanate’s growing sports tourism sector by renewing its sponsorship of the National Bank of Oman (NBO) Golf Classic Grand Final for a fifth consecutive year.
Since sponsoring the inaugural event in 2013, Oman Air has played an important role in the tournament’s emergence as a key fixture on the global golfing calendar.
As an official sponsor, the carrier will transport the 45 qualifying golfers, their management, caddies, and supporters from all over the world to Muscat.
Paul Gregorowitsch, Oman Air CEO, said: “Golfers will compete from November 1-4, 2017 at the Almouj Golf for a share of a €400,000 prize fund. Oman Air remains actively committed in promoting Oman as a world-class golfing destination and we are very proud of the beautiful golf courses that the Sultanate has to offer.
“The national carrier for the Sultanate of Oman was delighted to announce on April 9 that passengers can take their golf bag on board flights to and from Muscat free of charge. The new policy demonstrates Oman Air’s pledge to encouraging golf tourism in Oman. This announcement will contribute in golfers choosing Oman over other golfing destinations.”
Ahmad Al Musalami, NBO’s CEO, said: “Over the last five years, the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final has developed into an integral component of global golf industry, providing a fitting end to the annual Challenge Tour and a springboard towards the highest echelons of the sport.
“Oman Air has been a steadfast tournament partner since the beginning and we are delighted to welcome them back on board for a fifth year running.”
The NBO Golf Classic Grand Final is the culmination of the European Challenge Tour Season, which comprises 27 tournaments across 21 different countries.
The 15 highest ranked players at the end of the season’s “Road to Oman” rankings will then progress to the European Tour and have the opportunity to compete against some of the biggest names in the sport.
